When Callaway Golf bought the Ben Hogan franchise the golfing community waited with baited breathe to see what one of the games giants would do with the brand. But the wait is almost over as Callaway are about to launch the much anticipated Apex irons in December 2013 and I for one can't wait to give them a try. Having played the Hogan Apex irons myself whilst starting out in the game those irons were the epitome of the great man himself and by the the look of it Callaway Golf have carried on that tradition.

This new Apex iron is primarily aimed at the golfer that wants to generate that little bit of extra distance without comprimising on feel and on the face of it, if you give these irons a try you won't be disapointed. They have a sleek look throughout the set and one that will appeal to a wide variety of golfers. As you can see from the picture above the topline is not too thick and the sole is not on the bulky side, so it would not put off the low handicap golfers that are striving for that little bit of extra help.

The Apex iron head has a multi-material design make-up which gives it its amazing performance characteristics. The main body of the iron is made from forging 1020 carbon steel. This gives the Apex iron its great feel and responsiveness to get precise distance control. The face on the other hand is made from a thin 455 carpenter steel which gives greater ball speeds of 1-2mph Callaway claim, which transfers into greater carry and more distance.

Another great performance feature that has been added is the tungsten insert in the sole. In the 3-5 irons this has been placed lower down enabling the golfer to easily launch the higher whilst giving you greater forgiveness.

The grooves have been changed in the Apex iron. They have utilized high performance wide spaced grooves that offer better performance from a wide variety of lies especially from the rough. Tour players have especially liked these new grooves as they put less spin on the ball from the fairways allowing them to get greater distance control when firing at the pins

The stock shaft offerings for the Apex iron will be the True Temper XP95 in steel, and the UST Recoil for the graphite option. The XP95 shaft is lightweight and high launching with a controlled ball flight whilst the graphite shaft offering of the UST Recoil has higher flex points resulting in great feel and workability.

The Apex Range will be available in both left and right hand from 3-9,PW,AW and SW. They will be available from December 6th 2013 with the left handed irons coming in January. As yet as price hasn't been set yet but please feel free to check back to Aslan Golf for further updates..
