TaylorMade Spider GTX Golf Putter

The TaylorMade Spider GTX Golf Putter

The TaylorMade Spider GTX sets a new standard in putter performance and construction. It features a modern wing design with sharp angles and extreme perimeter weighting to create optimal forgiveness.

The 145g top plate eliminates excess weight in the middle of the head for a lighter feel, while the short sightline aids alignment. Steel side weights (90g per weight for a total of 180g) push 82 percent of the putter's total weight to the perimeter for exceptional stability on off-center strikes.

The Modern Wing Design

The Modern Wing Design of the TaylorMade Spider GTX Golf Putter is a departure from the traditional shape of the classic putter. It has sharp angular features and extreme perimeter weighting for optimal forgiveness and roll, making it the ultimate modern mallet.

The 'wings' of the putter are made from a lightweight aluminum top plate and positioned to carry a short sightline for alignment. This helps to create a modern, compact look that is not only easier on the eyes but also more stable when putting.

To improve stability and MOI, the top plate is flanked by heavy tungsten side weights. This moves 82 percent of the weight from the center section of the putter head to the edges and rear, creating a stable head from every angle.

Another major contributor to stability is the split mass “winged” design, which distributes mass around the putter body in a way that maximises MOI and stability. Typically a steel frame with tungsten weights in the corner is used to enhance a putter's MOI and stability, but this open-frame design makes use of the aluminium shell to increase the distribution of the 'teeth' (90g each) from the centre to the outer wings.

It's this simple combination that allows the Spider GT to deliver maximum forgiveness and stability across the face without sacrificing any distance. In fact, testing on Foresight GCQuad shows that the smash factor on a putt struck pure or heel-toe is almost the same.

To improve stability and forgiveness even further, the head has a Pure Roll 2 insert. This is a firmer insert than TaylorMade typically uses, and it has silver aluminum beams at a 45 degree angle on the face for improved topspin. This design also allows the putter to flex more than a traditional co-molded insert, delivering more feel and control over your putts.

Extreme Perimeter Weighting

The Spider family of putters is an iconic brand in the world of golf. Its high MOI and stability has helped it become a popular choice for many players. It’s also a great choice for low handicappers.

To make the putter more stable, TaylorMade moved weight out of the centre of the club and pushed it out onto the perimeters of the putter. This allows the putter to remain square through impact and resist twisting on off-centre strikes.

In addition to the extreme perimeter weighting, the Spider GT is built with a striking top plate that helps to add more stability. The top plate is made from lightweight 6061 aluminium and eliminates excess weight in the centre and on top of the club.

It also features a striking black sightline and contrasting white section that helps golfers to visualise their putting stroke and ball path before they take the shot. It is available in 4 different hosel options and comes in a range of shaft types, lengths and head sizes to suit most players.

Perimeter weighting is a common design feature on modern clubheads, helping to create a larger sweet spot that provides increased forgiveness. It can also be used to shift the weight of the clubhead to cure toe-miss hits and help players get the ball up in the air.

Another example of perimeter weighting is in hybrids and rescue clubs that have hollow construction in the clubhead to move more weight out of the hosel and face for greater forgiveness. The design of these clubs has improved the performance of professionals and amateurs alike.

Perimeter weighting is also used in a variety of iron sets from PING, with the company’s new G20 Irons featuring extreme perimeter weighting and a deep multi-cavity design for forgiveness and distance control. Combined with a CGS (Control, Feel, Stability) steel shaft, the G20 Irons offer players improved ball speeds and more distance gaps.

Open Frame Multi-Material Design

The TaylorMade Spider GTX is an open frame putter with a multi-material design that creates an extremely stable winged mallet. It has sharp angular features and extreme perimeter weighting to help golfers have more confidence with their putting strokes.

It uses a top plate made from 6061 aluminum that eliminates excess weight in the center of the putter. The putter also has a 154-gram horseshoe-shaped back weight that encircles the back of the head and accounts for 45 percent of the total putter weight. This helps to shift the center of gravity further back from the face, allowing players to have more stability and forgiveness when they strike the ball.

In addition to this, the Spider GTX has two 90-gram steel side weights that push 82 percent of the putter's total weight towards the perimeter of the putter for more stability throughout the putting stroke and on off-center putts. It also includes a Pure Roll 2 insert that is made from urethane and aluminum to improve forward roll and speed consistency.

All of these features combine to create a high-stability putter that is ideal for players with moderate to low swing speeds. In addition, the Spider GTX is able to be customized to match the player's putting motion.

Moreover, the putter's TruePath technology makes it easy for golfers to get their stroke and putting stroke right. This contrasting white background and black sightline on the putter's top helps to visually identify the stroke's path and stroke sequence.

The Spider GTX comes in single bend, centre shaft and short slant hosel models. Each one features a fluted feel shaft and Super Stroke GT 1.0 Black/Red grip. The white women's model has light blue wings and a light blue/gray grip.

Pure Roll 2 Insert

The Pure Roll 2 insert of the Spider GTX golf putter features silver aluminum beams at a 45 degree angle to promote more topspin across the face. This is designed to increase the forward roll of putts and prevent them from falling off line when mis-hit.

It also promotes a soft feel and softer sound off of the putter head when you hit it, which helps you control your distance and maximize your pace on the greens. In addition, the Pure Roll 2 insert provides a consistent roll time after time right from impact with the ball, which is important for accurate putting.

Another feature of the Spider GTX is TaylorMade’s trademark True Path alignment system, which forms an arrow that is exactly the width of the putt on the top of the club head. This helps players align their putter perfectly with their target lines, which improves accuracy and increases confidence in putting.

Additionally, the Spider GTX has an adjustable weight system that allows golfers to customize their balance and feel based on their individual needs. This putster is a great option for both new and experienced golfers who are looking for a versatile and affordable blade putter.

Whether you’re just getting started in the sport or you’re an advanced player, the Spider GTX will provide you with a lot of confidence and help you stay in your game. It also offers a variety of options for you to choose from, including 4 unique shapes and multiple colors.

The flow neck hosel variant of the Spider GTX is perfect for golfers with a moderate amount of rotation in their stroke. The Spider GTX also has a single bend hosel, which makes it a good option for beginners or those who need a shorter shaft length. The club also features TaylorMade’s trademark True Path technology, which is a reflective pattern that is easy to track with the eye.

TruePath Technology

TruePath Technology enables golfers to visualize their putter’s alignment and help them ensure that they are striking the ball squarely. This is especially beneficial for those who have trouble with sighting and visualizing the ball’s path toward the hole.

TaylorMade has taken the idea of True Path Alignment to a new level with the Spider GTX. The club has an optically engineered sightline with a wide white area to help golfers visualize their putt.

It also includes a black line in the center of the face to make it easier to see where you want the putter to hit the ball. This helps reduce parallax and enables more consistent roll.

The TaylorMade Spider GTX is a high-MOI putter that is available in several different colors and is designed to encourage a stable putting motion. In addition, the club has a heavy stainless steel back bar to reduce twisting at impact.

Another great feature about the TaylorMade Spider GTX is that it can be adjusted to three different positions. This is done by shifting the two 40-gram sliding tungsten weights to different positions in the tracks.

This adjustability enables players to fine-tune the center of gravity, toe hang and face rotation for a more customized feel. It also makes the putter more responsive to your putting stroke, which will increase your confidence and improve your performance.

The TaylorMade Spider GTX comes in 13 top plate color options, 22 face insert color options, 14 paint fill options and a variety of hosel options. It also has a MySpider option, which gives golfers the ability to customize their putter with more custom features than any other TaylorMade model.
